African Coiling is a hand-building technique which is originated in West Africa. It involves working with small sausage shape coils, starting in the palm of the hand twisting in a spiral movement. This technique allows anyone to create small to huge forms even if you have never worked in clay. Students are encouraged to come tith their own ideas focusing on the garden; birdbaths, fountains, planters, chimes or simply decorative ornaments. Sturdents will also explore surface decoration and glazing.
