Custodian/Handyman
Hitchcock Free Academy is a public nonprofit community center located in the heart of Brimfield, MA. Our mission is to enrich the lives of area residents of all ages by providing educational, recreational, and cultural programming. We are a small but highly visible and active organization that is at the heart of the community.
We are looking for a custodian/handyman to be responsible for the overall maintenance and cleanliness of the facilities and grounds. This is an opportunity to be a vital part of a team to facilitate organizational growth while serving the community.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, able to work independently, flexible and has a willingness to pitch in where needed. A positive attitude is essential.
Duties and Responsibilities
Proper cleaning (e.g., dusting, scrubbing, polishing, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, disinfecting, trash removal, etc) of the entire building.
Clean, sanitize/disinfect and maintain restrooms.
Test and/or maintain and report issues re water system, fire alarm, heating, lighting plumbing, electric systems etc to ensure they are working properly.
Upkeep of the tennis /pickleball courts as needed.
Remove debris and snow from sidewalks and other areas when necessary.
Strip and wax floors. Seasonally open/close and wash windows.
Repair and paint doors, windows, walls, ceilings, and other parts of the building.
Power washing and outside projects as needed.
Ability to lift and move heavy objects as needed. Set rooms up for programs.
Maintain inventory of janitorial supplies.
Close and secure the building at the end of scheduled workday
Willingness to work occasional weekends for programs and/or events.
Willingness to work additional hours to assist with flea market parking duties if needed.

Executive Administrative Assistant
We are looking for an organized and detail-oriented person to support the executive director and help keep the office running smoothly and efficiently. This is an opportunity to be a vital part of a team to facilitate organizational growth while serving the community. It is a front-facing position with daily interaction with instructors and program participants. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated and able to work independently. The position requires flexibility with an upbeat positive, can do attitude.
Duties and Responsibilities
Demonstrate a mature, responsible, and professional image while assuming responsibility for the smooth running of the daily operations.
Process mail, email, phone requests, registrations, donations, and petty cash in an efficient, timely and accurate manner.
Answer phones and greet visitors, schedule appointments, maintain calendars and coordinate meetings, assist instructors as needed.
Communicate with class instructors to schedule programs, monitor contracts, and track attendance.
Prepare communications such as memos, emails, invoices, reports, and other correspondence.
Coordinate mailings/communications and track RSVPs and attendance for events.
Write and edit communications, from letters to reports and instructional documents.
Create and maintain filing systems, both electronic and physical.
In coordination with marketing, enter and update information on the website as needed.
Maintain the program schedule & communicate information for use by the staff, instructors, and program participants.
Manage donation data, gift acknowledgments, update & maintain contact lists.
Adhere to security standards to ensure privacy as well as secure transactions to our program participants and our facility.
Ability to move tables and chairs to set rooms up for programs if needed.
Willingness to work occasional weekends for classes and/or events
Close and secure the building at the end of scheduled work day
Assume other duties as directed.
Skills and Qualifications
The position requires effective time management, attention to detail, organizational skills, written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office products, the ability to multi-task, learn new computer programs and flexibility to pitch in where needed. The person must be able to work independently and as a team member and be able to collaborate effectively with staff, volunteers, and board members. A growth mind set and positive attitude are essential. Event planning and IT skills are a plus.
This is a part time position two days a week a combination of afternoon and evening hours approximately between 3 and 9 pm, occasionally later, depending on scheduled programming.

Hitchcock Free Academy Summer Program Director
Want to make a difference in the life of a child, bring fun and joy to their summer? We are seeking a person to lead summer programming activities at Hitchcock Free Academy (“HFA”). This is a hands-on position, responsible for the day-to-day operation of HFA’s summer program and ensuring the success and safety of participants and staff. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with children, grades K-6, have strong organizational skills and a positive, enthusiastic attitude, be dependable, and approach families, colleagues, and summer program attendees with warmth, patience, and genuine care. Experience working in an after school, camp, recreation, or school setting strongly preferred. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am. – 4:30 p.m. The program will run from July through mid-August.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Work with the Executive Director to develop summer program activities prior to season opening.
Administration, oversight, coordination, and implementation of all youth summer programming.
Train, supervise, and support all summer program staff to ensure that activity planning and implementation meets or exceeds expectations.
Actively participate in summer program activities. Activities may include crafts, nature-related activities, team sports, games, etc.
Manage summer program behavioral issues.
Maintain open communication and communicate clearly and timely with staff, parents, and children.
Maintain confidentiality.
Perform other related duties as required, directed, or as a situation dictates.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Proven experience working in an after school, camp, recreation, or school setting, particularly for children in grades K-6.
Experience scheduling and planning activities for children that demonstrate creativity and motivate children.
Excellent organizational, communication, leadership, and supervisory skills.
Knowledge of positive behavioral management techniques.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent role model.
CPR/ First Aid certified preferred or willingness to become certified.
Ability to lift and/or move up to thirty (30) pounds, as may be required.
