​What do volunteers do?

Volunteers act as every staff at events and programs happening throughout the year. Some tasks require physical work, while others may focus on administrative work. Hitchcock offers perfect opportunities for students looking to complete community service hours.

What does a trustee do?

A trustee safeguards the mission of Hitchcock Free Academy and guides its growth by contributing vital skills and experience in a variety of areas, including nonprofit administration, business, finance, marketing, historical preservation and maintenance. Trustees are expected to participate actively in committee work in their given area(s) of expertise. Trustees are also ambassadors of Hitchcock's programs, and enthusiastically share opportunities to experience its offerings with their network.

2024 Volunteer Opportunities

​​FLEA MARKET PARKING: May/July/September
Each day the flea markets are open we park cars on our property. There are three different types of “jobs”. When busy these are active on your feet jobs. We especially need volunteers from 9 – noon but do park until 2ish.

1. Flag Waver: Simply wave a flag along route 20 to attract and direct cars to park at HFA.
2. Collect the $. As vehicles enter the parking lot (or lawn) the fee is collected. If it is a busy time the person needs to be aware to make quick transactions and get the cars into the lot and off the road.
3. Direct cars to parking spots. There is an order to fill the lot to maximize space and then cars are parked on the lawn. Here it is critical to direct cars to also maximize the space and prevent anyone from being blocked in. Spatial awareness is important.

​PLANT SALE: May
Opportunities include:

1. Arrive at 6am and help unload plants from the truck and carry them to the designated spot. Approx 1.5 hours
2. Cashier: Adding up purchases and collecting money - primarily cash & checks. Help needed 7:30am - 2pm 
3. Plant expertise: Requires knowledge of plants to help guide people with purchases and answer questions. Help needed 8am - 2pm

​TOWN-WIDE TAG SALE: June
Opportunities include:

1. Selling printed maps. Sit near the road, cars pull up and purchase printed maps
2. Directing parking - There are vendors on our lawn and therefore also parking. If it is busy, for safety we need to direct people where to park.
3. There may be an HFA vendor table that would need a person to process transactions.

​HITCHCOCK SUMMER CONCERT SERIES: July/August
On the Brimfield Common
Wednesdays 6 – 8 pm
Help at the Hitchcock Academy information table. Walk through the audience distributing the evening program/brochure.

FORE A GOOD CAUSE GOLF TOURNAMENT: September
Help set up for the tournament beginning at Noon. Lay out snacks, set up raffle display, sell raffle tickets. During the tournament there are contests at different holes. Some require a non-player to be witness the winners.
